The idea for an art center in Dunedin began over 50 years ago, in 1969, with a vision shared by five women from the Junior Service League of Clearwater-Dunedin. Recognizing the vital role of the arts in everyday life, they dreamed of creating a space where creativity could flourish and the arts could be celebrated. Determined to bring this vision to life, they worked toward fostering a cultural climate and establishing a fine arts and cultural center in Dunedin.
With the support of the League and the City of Dunedin, the groundwork was laid for what would become an enduring legacy. In 1974, their efforts came to fruition as the city broke ground on the Dunedin Fine Art Center. Just one year later, in February 1975, the doors of the original 2,000-square-foot facility opened to the public, guided by a commitment to excellence and a welcoming spirit.
