Before assuming its current identity, the former railroad station underwent a crucial transformation facilitated by the establishment of the Dunedin Historical Society in 1970. Born out of a desire to preserve local history, the Society successfully saved and repurposed the Andrews Memorial Chapel, solidifying its commitment to safeguarding Dunedin's heritage. Andrews Memorial Chapel is operated and managed by the Dunedin History Museum.
The educational aspect of the Dunedin History Museum (DHM) is a vibrant and integral component of our commitment to fostering learning, exploration, and a deep appreciation for Dunedin’s history. Our educational initiatives cater to diverse audiences, including students, guests, and community members in the region.
Volunteering:
At the heart of the Dunedin History Museum, a dynamic force sustains our institution: our dedicated volunteers. They are not just contributors; they are the architects of living history, wielding passion, expertise, and commitment to ensure the vibrant tapestry of our community’s past remains vividly etched in the present.
Our volunteers are the guardians of knowledge, guiding visitors through the corridors of time, illuminating stories, and bringing artifacts to life. With unwavering dedication, they preserve the legacy of Dunedin, standing as sentinels of culture, heritage, and the invaluable connection between the past and future. We offer volunteer opportunities for High school students and older.
